Vendors came together in Soundview on Monday to stand together in solidarity with one of their own who was arrested on Saturday.

Dozens of vendors gathered along Westchester Avenue, right where a fellow vendor was arrested on Saturday afternoon. That vendor remains in the hospital.

Video from a bystander who was present during the incident shows Cecilia Rebollar Perez, the vendor who was detained, seemingly passed out while in handcuffs. Officers are seen carrying Perez and others are attempting to intervene in the video but are being shoved away.

Perez and her family members, who are also vendors, say that Saturday was the first time that they had set up shop outside of 1571 Westchester Ave. – and that it was also the first time they were met with police handcuffs.

“They treated her so bad, they pushed her. I’m just asking for them to do their job right,” said Perez's daughter-in-law, Angeles Trejo. “Just seeing here there on the floor unconscious, I was begging with the officers to call her an ambulance and they never called her one.”

According to the Department of Sanitation, Westchester Avenue is not an area where vendors can set up shop without a license or permit.

Both the Department of Sanitation and the NYPD say that Cecilia Rebollar Perez bit a sanitation officer prior to being handcuffed and that she now faces charges.
